In a surprising trend, students at Glenvar High School have taken interest in playing poker during their free time. The popular card game, usually associated with casinos, has found a new home in the walls of school, sparking enthusiasm and controversy.
Many students are drawn to poker due to its combination of strategy, psychology, and statistics. It teaches you to read people, calculate probability, and think several steps ahead. For some students, poker is a way to sharpen their skills with analyzing and decision making under pressure.
Studies have shown that incorporating poker into the classroom, such as math and economics classes, has proven to benefit the students, making these subjects more engaging and fun.
“I love that students are playing” says Mrs. Brookshier, the Glenvar High School Statistics teacher. “Poker is a probability situation that helps probability skills.”
Though the game is usually associated with winning or losing big, students at Glenvar don’t play the game for money, making it a lot cheaper and ton more entertaining.
